Unfortunately, not only is this bringing new innovations to gameplay on the Xbox, but it also introduces a new way for Microsoft to nickle and dime subscribers into bank account oblivion. Plans to open an Avatar Store have been detailed by Robin Burrowes, a product manager for Xbox LIVE.
"The plan of record will be to launch a more extensive Avatar Store from spring time onwards next year, and that store in theory would have branded content in there, game publisher IP stuff in there as well."When asked what kinds of items would be specifically for sale in the store she responded, commenting:
"There's a whole creative canvas for these things. Due to tight time lines there's nothing at launch as such but our vision for these in the future is well and truly tied to game releases and us working with publishers very closely to encourage rewards from those games to be tied to your Avatar." -- Videogamer.comWhile I don't have a problem with receiving Avatar perks as achievement tie-ins, there is no chance that I would ever consider paying for items. I felt identically about the gamerpics, so why would I change now? Would you ever pay money to pimp out your Avatar?
