Pachter Predicts: Project Natal's Price Point
July 13, 2009 | 4:50 PM PST
Everyone's Favorite Analyst, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan, put in an appearance on last week's episode of GameTrailers' Bonus Round show. On this episode, there was much discussion about the future of gaming, including Microsoft's Project Natal.
During the course of the show, Pachter reveals what he believes will be the price for Microsoft's answer to the Wii (or Wii Plus, as they also discuss). He says that he thinks Microsoft is serious enough about market penetration with the device that "they'll give it away if they have to." He doesn't mean quite literally, but he thinks they will "subsidize it heavily," and likely sell it for under $50, probably with the Ricochet game and perhaps three other similar games included.
In addition, he is confident they will also include it in the box with the Xbox 360, with the only question being whether it will be the 60GB 360 SKU we know now, or the heavily-rumored "new Xbox 360" SKU to take advantage of the online aspects Microsoft wishes to push. With that, he expects the Pro SKU to take up the $199 slot, with Natal and a larger hard drive occupying the $299 shelf space.
