Media: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing - Images and Interview

Between yesterday's trailer and today's screens, it almost feels like SEGA is pulling the same trick as with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. On the upside, there aren't nearly as many screens this time, but that's also a downside-- these seem to show a lot more variety to them.
Sadly, no new screens for the DS crowd have surfaced yet, though they can still enjoy the character art of Sonic and AiAi. We also have another glimpse of an unconfirmed shadowy hedgehog on a motorcycle and a SEGA Community Interview from GamesCom with Sumo Digital Senior Designer Will Tarratt:
...and that's why Sonic's in a car.
Looking at this, I really love the variety and style. And while I know some may see it as blasphemy to even suggest it, this game really makes me wonder what Nintendo could do if they made a Mario Kart-style game with the full range and variety of Super Smash Bros. characters, stages, and such.
I wonder who else from the SEGA archives will make their way in? Or what they would do for Golden Axe or Altered Beast characters. Who would you want to see join the race?
