BioWare and Electronic Arts today again denied rumors of a PS3 version of the upcoming Mass Effect 2. Previous speculations and comments seemed to be in error.
We previously reported that BioWare community manager Jay Watamaniuk had let slip a probable release for Mass Effect 2 on the PS3. "…and Probably PS3" were Watamaniuk's words when listing the platforms for the game at a conference in Poland. Watamaniuk then seemingly backed out of the statement with the usual company line when referring to rumors.
Later on BioWare's forums, Watamaniuk further backed away. "There is a report circulating today based on an appearance I made in Poland yesterday," he wrote. "Seems there was a misunderstanding about ME2 coming to PS3."
"Let me clarify today: ME2 is coming to PC and X360 only," Watamaniuk confirmed.
Speculation about Mass Effect games coming to the PS3 has always been around, especially after EA purchased BioWare and took over publishing of the franchise from Microsoft. As speculative as Mass Effect 2's "exclusive" status is, one has to wonder about PS3 owners catching up from the first game.
Mass Effect 2 was recently confirmed for a January 26th release in North America and the same week in Europe on Xbox 360 and PC.
