Infinity Ward yesterday eliminated any possibility of developing games for the Nintendo Wii, which doesn't suit the kinds of experiences they want to make. Infinity Ward also gave some new insight into their mentality developing Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling told Develop on November 3rd that they want to create cinematic experiences which the Wii's hardware doesn't agree with.
"If we felt like we could deliver the cinematic experience we were going for on other platforms, then we would gladly move to that platform," Bowling said.
"Right now, we don't think the Wii can deliver the exact experience that we're doing. We like to be very equal across all platforms, and if it's not equal then we won't do it."
Bowling also denied to develop that they felt any unusual amount of pressure given the hype behind Modern Warfare 2. "It does put pressure on you," Bowling said. "Just as much pressure that you always have when you make a game."
"Very early on we decided to shelter ourselves from being distracted by the hype," said Bowling. "We approached it like we would any other game."
Furthermore, Infinity Ward set the November release date for Modern Warfare 2 back in March – something statistically difficult to pull off in this industry. Bowling expresses no worry or pressure from this.
"We are very confident in the game right now," he said. "We've got everything we wanted to get into it and we are at a point where we are happy with it."
