With Wednesday being Veterans Day, and Modern Warfare 2 set to target stores tomorrow, Activision has announced plans to donate $1 million to create a new non-profit organization dedicated to assisting soldiers with re-integrating into civilian lives, as well as finding jobs.
The corporation, called the Call of Duty Endowment (CODE), is headed up by multiple retired veterans, including MG Matthew P. Caulfield (USMC-Ret.), COL Roger Dimsdale (USA-Ret.), RADM Ronne Froman (USN-Ret.), CPT Gordon H. Mansfield (USA-Ret.), BG James A. "Spider" Marks (USA-Ret.), GEN Montgomery C. Meigs (USA-Ret.), SFC Steve Robinson (USA-Ret.), BG Harry A. Sieben, Jr. (USANG-Ret.), MG Craig Whelden (USA-Ret.) and MCPO Maurice Wilson (USN-Ret.)
"The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more," said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, in an interview with the Washington Post. "How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can't integrate back into the free market they're supposed to be protecting?"
Good to see Activision stepping out and making some much-needed philanthropic strides during a very important holiday. Hopefully this brings some good press for Modern Warfare 2, something it hasn't been able to find lately.
