Week-Ending Game Endings - 01.15.10 - Countdown to Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
January 15, 2010 | 4:58 PM PST

Hopefully this goes better than my Marvel vs. Capcom 2 countdown.

Anyway, with Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing off on the horizon, I thought it would make a good running theme for Week-Ending Game Endings to get reacquainted with some of SEGA's classic characters and franchises by checking out the endings from the games in which they appeared (as much as possible, anyway; did Crazy Taxi really have anything resembling an ending?).

To start, we're getting the cast of the eponymous franchise out of the way, starting with Sonic and Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik's first appearance, Sonic the Hedgehog:

Next up comes Miles "Tails" Prower's ending in his playable debut, Sonic the Hedgehog 2:

Now, it's "Sonic Boom" time with Amy Rose as she is rescued by the gallant hedgehog in the somewhat-rare Sonic the Hedgehog CD:

Next, it's Knuckles vs. Mecha Sonic for control of the Master Emerald from the finale of Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

Big the Cat and Froggy's part was thankfully small in Sonic Adventure, though some would say not small enough. Here is how they finished their journey before uniting with everyone else to cheer on Sonic in his fight against Perfect Chaos:

Grand Theft Tornado?

And finally, a moment that would live for years to come, even leaving its mark in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with its theme music. Shadow the Hedgehog joins forces with Sonic to become Super Shadow and Super Sonic as they take on the FinalHazard and attempt to save their planet from destruction:

And that does it for this week's Week-Ending Game Endings. Next week, we'll take a look at another classic SEGA franchise before they head to the starting line. Until then, have a great weekend!
