Like its predecessor, Fuzion Frenzy 2 is a collection of mini-games. Thats where the similarity ends. Instead of a modern day group of people, the game went futuristic and gave us over-the-top versions of the characters we know. For one, there is more than three colors, there are now six: Blue, yellow, red, green, purple, and pink. Each color supports its own attitude and voice actor, complete with cheesy taunting. Games have also gotten a futuristic shine, so you won't find any bug squishing or running up giant stairs here. We got a chance to try out three of these mini-games, and we were surprised.
First up, we got put in an ice rink. Each player got a flame thrower equipped, and was told to melt the ice that was entrapping coins. The larger the ice column, the richer and bigger the coin. The more cheap of us managed to knock down our compatriots with the flamethrower This tended to backfire, as the person knocked down got to be invincible for a few seconds after they got up. While invincible, recently melted coins became ripe for the picking. Chaos became the motto of this game, and every chance we had to snatch another coin was taken from us in an instant. It was hectic, and more importantly, fun.
Next up was a slightly annoying game where each of us was given a front loading bulldozer. The object was to grab boxes and return them to our home base. Boxes appeared at random on the field, and parts of the field were conveyor belts which kept moving. Thus the boxes themselves kept moving around, making them hard to grab. Pincering another player who had a box in hand was another option. When this happened they blipped out for a few seconds, allowing you ample time to grab their recently dropped box. You could also grab boxes from other person's home bases and take them back to your own. This last part was particularly dirty, and caused us no end of grief. With having to play fetch, defend your home base, and pray no one knocked you down, this game was definitely the least fun of the three.
Last but most fun was sumo ball. All four players were dropped on a hex grid while inside a giant hamster ball. Everywhere we rolled, the grid we rolled on changed colors. The goal was to have as many grids changed to your color as possible. This of course also means you had to hit other players off the sides so they couldn't re-color what you changed. Of course they would just drop back in a few seconds later, but it was usually long enough for you to score some major points. Thus the sumo part is trying to push people off while keep as much of your own color on the board. This was the standout game of the three, and we spent the most time with it.
Fuzion Frenzy 2 might just fill that party game niche the 360 has been sorely lacking over the past few years. We will have more on Fuzion Frenzy 2 when it hits the 360 this November.
